The House on Third Street

The House on Third Street is an extremely energy efficient and extremely healthy home located in Sandusky, Ohio. The home was built by Mark Norman and Sue Daugherty as a grassroots response to the escalating cost of energy. The home showcases conservation building design and technology that can dramatically reduce the cost of energy and at the same time dramatically improve the health of the home’s environment. In addition to being energy efficient, the home won’t support mold, bacteria, flames or off gas.  No wood is used in the structure and it is earthquake, wind, and bullet proof.

In a bottom up approach, The House on Third Street was built to demonstrate to the public and officials that there are products and systems available now that can greatly improve the health and energy efficiency of residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural buildings.

Our goal is to showcase these products and connect consumers with the companies that provide them. By popularizing and mainstreaming products like Insulated Concrete Forms, tankless water heaters, Air Exchange Units, we can dramatically reduced the amount of energy we use.

More than 2,500 people have toured the home, including over thirty national, state, and local officials and over 40 corporate representatives.

Mark's and Sue's Vision

Sue and I believe that energy is the number one issue before us, and that it is a global issue. Energy affects the cost of every item and service we use.  It especially impacts those who can least afford it.  By the time many people pay their taxes, housing, transportation, health care, and utilities, their income is exhausted if not exceeded.  What will support the rest of our economy if each dollar is already spoken for before it is received?  What will our children and grandchildren have to look forward to?  What will older adults have to look forward to? more...
